Quality film professionally installed lasts about a decade. The XPEL Ultimate Plus we install at Rocky’s Ultimate Garage carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking, peeling and staining.
Bargain film is a different story. It can yellow or peel inside two years, and removing failed film risks lifting clear coat with it. Most PPF horror stories trace back to cheap film or a rushed install, not to the idea of film itself.
What shortens the life of any film
Constant sun, harsh chemicals and neglect. A car parked outside year-round in Florida works its protection harder than a garaged one. That is exactly why the warranty matters: a decade is a long time in this climate.
How to care for it
Wash normally. Avoid aiming a pressure washer at the film edges. Let the self-healing top coat do its job: light swirls disappear with heat from the sun or a pour of warm water.
We install PPF in two temperature-controlled clean rooms, and our installers are factory trained by XPEL. The film is half the answer. Who puts it on is the other half.
