They solve different problems. Paint protection film stops physical damage: rock chips, scratches, road rash. Ceramic coating stops chemical and UV damage and makes the car easier to keep clean. If you can only pick one for a car you actually drive, film the nose first and add ceramic when the budget allows.
PPF is a clear urethane film about the thickness of a business card, applied over the paint. We install XPEL Ultimate Plus, which self-heals light scratches with heat and carries a 10-year warranty.
Ceramic coating is a bonded liquid polymer. It will not absorb a stone, but it keeps the finish slick, glossy and protected from the Florida sun. Ours is XPEL Fusion Plus, a 9H coating with a 4-year warranty.
